SYONA  port fairy
  Brisbane to Port Fairy 2004

SYONA is the most recent addition to the fleet at Port Fairy.

Recently purchased by Tony Cassidy, he has assembled a crew of four to sail SYONA from it's present home, Brisbane, to Port Fairy. They will depart on 19th of November, 2004.

The cruise, of about 900NM, is expected to take eight days in good conditions. In reality, it will probably take about two weeks.

The crew consists of:
Tony Cassidy (Port Fairy),
John Neilson
(Williamstown),
Ian Anderson
(Port Fairy) and
Jackson Urie
(Frankston).

The crew will be keeping you updated on their voyage; internet access permitting of course.

Check back daily for crew news and photos

We had a beautiful sail from Forster to Ulladulla, with a northerly wind allowing us to sail along the coast and view towering cliffs at Jervis Bay. John and Jackson were also lucky enough to have a long visit from a very large pod of dolphins.

Our stay in Ulladulla was a little longer than we would have rathered, so we made haste for Eden yesterday morning even if the wind was on the nose, along with the swell.... and the tide. So it was a long night which makes the almost vertical walk to the Eden shops that little bit harder. Hopefully after a short nap we’ll be on our final leg to Port Fairy.

See you all soon.. from Syona.

P.S Thankyou to Gordon and Julie Pattender at Harbour Side Tackle Shop in Eden. They were kind enough to lend us their ute after filling up our petrol cans in their store, we recommend them to anybody in Eden.

We decided to spend the night on land for Ian’s birthday, so we pulled into Port Stephens. The scenes coming in were magnificent along with the meals at the local pub.

We arrived at Forster Tuncurry at 9:15pm last night while dolphins followed us to shore. We then enjoyed the best pizzas we’d ever eaten, but unfortunately Forster is a dry town with the pubs closing before we could finish our meal.

Set sail again at 11:00am this morning after refueling and refeeding. The weather is beautiful and we’re finally on track with 10 knots of northerly winds.

Pictures: leaving forster tuncurry, and john’s favourite passtime; navigating while drinking tea.

Anecdote

SYONA is checking in regularly, via VHF radio, with the Coast Guard who is logging their progress.

In a recent report they gave their position as:  ‘X' miles West of ’some landmark'. The Coast Guard got back to them:  “Are you sure?  That would place you up in the hills”.

WEDNESDAY 24TH

We’ve been enjoying barbecues and cruising the town. All ready to leave tomorrow; touch wood the weather brakes.    Jackson

MESSAGE: Hello from all on the Syona.

We’re checking out the town of Evans Head and found an internet cafe. We’re all well and looking forward to when the weather clears so that we can get back to sea. Hopefully the pictures will be up soon.
