SYONA  port fairy
  Brisbane to Port Fairy 2004

SYONA is the most recent addition to the fleet at Port Fairy.

Recently purchased by Tony Cassidy, he has assembled a crew of four to sail SYONA from it's present home, Brisbane, to Port Fairy. They will depart on 19th of November, 2004.

The cruise, of about 900NM, is expected to take eight days in good conditions. In reality, it will probably take about two weeks.

The crew consists of:
Tony Cassidy (Port Fairy),
John Neilson
(Williamstown),
Ian Anderson
(Port Fairy) and
Jackson Urie
(Frankston).

The crew will be keeping you updated on their voyage; internet access permitting of course.

Check back daily for crew news and photos

UPDATE SATURDAY 27 Nov.

09:30
They have just sailed past Korogoro Point.  Tony and Ian sailed SYONA through the night passing Coffs Harbour. She is now heading to Port Macquarie. John and Jackson are on deck, the others are sleeping.

It’s sunny, the water is blue and they are enjoying the view of the cliffs along the coast. They have passed the lighthouse at Smokey Cape. The lighthouse stands 140 meters above sea level and can be seen for 25 miles.

Yesterday a pod of dolphins joined them for a while.
They are having a great time.

The plan is to continue sailing to Sydney but they may have to pull in for fuel; did some motoring during the night when the wind dropped. ..... Del

saturday update

Tony rang last night about llpm they were motoring in calm weather with full moon and flat seas...he thought they would pass coffs harbour around 2am. The plan is to keep going while the weather is good and they hope to get at least 3 good days in a row. They will possibly be in mobile range from time to time...had no reception all day yesterday but did at night (hope they weren’t heading to the beach!) marilyn

FRIDAY UPDATE

MOBILE PHONES ARE OUT OF REACH SO THEY MUST HAVE LEFT ....MAY NOT HEAR FROM THEM FOR A WHILE IF OUT OF RANGE. MARILYN

THURSDAY UPDATE

HOPE TO LEAVE EVANS HEADS EITHER TONIGHT BUT PROBABLY IN THE MORNING....WEATHER LOOKS VERY GOOD FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS IF THEY CAN JUST GET A LITTLE FURTHER SOUTH.....MARILYN

UPDATE WEDNESDAY

Still in beautiful Evans Heads...hope to leave tomorrow forcast is good for then. Long range forecast is good so they hope to make some good time if and when it improves enough to get going. John put $1- in a poker machine and won 250.00..tony had $10.00 on a warrnambool dog which paid $34-...Ian has nothing to report and Jack of course is not yet 18. Sausages for dinner again..there is a bbq near the boat...marilyn

UPDATE WEDNESDAY 24 Nov.

Heard from tony this morning...having a lovely time playing snooker all afternoon and had a barby last night and plenty of beer....think they will probably leave tomorrow and hope to then make some good time.. Marilyn

The pocket computer has been ‘tamed’ and SYONA has received your messages. They are very much appreciated. Pics are now coming through.

UPDATE TUESDAY 23 Nov.

...they are in Evans Point probably taking the bus to the T???? town to buy some supplies...local fishermen predict a day or two of bad weather so they may be sitting for a while..the present wind direction will make the bar tricky. the local police rang the mobile to see where they were ..the coast guard were keeping an eye on them because of the unexpected storm.

Update Monday 22 Nov.

SYONA has arrived at Evans Head where they expect to spend a few days. The weather forcast from Brisbane was not ‘quite’ right and the storm that was expected late this afternoon actually hit last night while they were making their way to coffs...tried to get into Yalta(??) but couldn’t so headed back to evans head...all are well (except Ian who is feeling a little seedy) the storm was fierce, but not so bad they couldnt take pictures ..we hope to have some on here soon. they are all wet, and tired and looking forward to dry land...marilyn

UPDATE Sunday 21 Nov

Tony phoned this morning around 8am bris time said they were off to get breakfast then hitting the water to get to coffs harbour...the front they expected has slowed and is not going to arrive till tomorrow arvo so they want to get to coffs before that. Marilyn

UPDATE 20 Nov

Due to reports of an expected front, SYONA is planning a two day stayover in Surfer’s. Of course, also expected in Surfer’s are 10,000 partying ‘Schoolies’. Jackson, where DID this report come from? ‘Kite House’ Tim is sceptical.

UPDATE - Friday 19 Nov.

Off to a late start this morning, 7am. Reported that two of the crew spent more time than scheduled in the ‘pub’ last night.
